The Amazon marketplace is a whole ecosystem that opens up many opportunities. But to get access to them, you first need to register. Despite seeming simplicity, entrepreneurs often face difficulties. Let’s take a look at how the registration process works on the Amazon website for sellers and also for buyers.
Registration on Amazon as a seller
A successful start requires document preparation and attention to detail. You are about to engage in commercial activity, so here is how to create an account with important notes.
Choosing the type of account
Determine the one you need:
- Individual: fewer than 40 sales per month. The entrepreneur registers as an individual — this is a small business that imposes certain limitations. For European Amazon, this option is unavailable.
- Professional. You will create a company page, a full-fledged store with unlimited monthly turnover, and receive access to analytics and promotional tools.
Before registration, carefully study the marketplace’s policy on commissions and fees!
Document preparation
Prepare scanned copies and statements. It is better to submit documents in .pdf or .jpeg formats with high resolution. You will need:
- Identity document — scanned pages of your international passport. The name must match the name in the account.
- Proof of address. Provide a bank statement or utility bill no older than 180 days. The address must match the one you specify during registration.
- Visa/Mastercard for commission and fee withdrawals.
- Bank account for payouts. Ukrainian entrepreneurs mostly use Payoneer.
- Tax information — TIN.
Determine the network from which you will manage the account before starting. Amazon is suspicious of IP address changes, which may lead to blocking.
Registration on Amazon.com
- Go to the marketplace website. If you already have a buyer account, you can choose the “Sell” option in the header. Or start from scratch and then choose the “Professional plan”.
- Open a Payoneer account.
- Enter your personal data: first name, last name, login, email, and others — exactly as stated in your passport and statements.
- Fill out the tax form. Amazon will offer the appropriate form depending on your residency. Ukrainians fill out the W-8BEN form. It exempts you from paying taxes in the US (but not in Ukraine — you will declare them yourself).
- Upload the documents required by the platform.
Verification
After submitting all forms, the most important stage begins — verification. On average, it lasts 24–48 hours. You may be invited to a video call. Be sure to prepare originals and copies of your documents and show them on camera upon request. The moderator may also ask additional questions.

After successful verification, you will be able to set up your profile in Seller Central — congratulations, you are registered as an Amazon seller! We recommend our useful article about fulfillment: it will become an important stage of your work on the marketplace.
Possible difficulties during seller account registration
Even though the procedure is standardized, you may face a number of issues:
- Unexpected blocking before verification is completed. Try to log into your account (at least at first) from one device and one IP address. A change may be considered suspicious activity.
- Errors in documents and forms. All data must match exactly, letter for letter! Check everything several times before submission. Also review bank documents — they may contain errors. In that case, they must be corrected and reissued.
- Errors in the tax form. Incorrect indication of tax residency will cause problems. Your national TIN must also be in order.
- Payoneer verification. The account must be verified so you can link it to your seller account.
